Reinvention as Our Resolution
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you have imagined."
--Henry David Thoreau
As we walk through the door from one year to the next, an incredible opportunity awaits us. This opportunity is Reinvention. We have the opportunity to decide who we want to be this next year. Actually, why limit the opportunity to a year? We have the opportunity to decide who we want to be for now on and reinvent ourselves to be this person. Ask your heart the following question and let your immediate FEELINGS and IMAGES pour from your pen onto paper:
Who do I long to be?
It is your soul that speaks through your heart's longings. Longings present themselves as feelings of joy, of excitement at the prospect of the object of hope becoming reality, and of heartache at the prospect of hope being unfulfilled. Asking yourself who you want to be may not elicit the same response as who you long to be since we have been conditioned or perhaps programmed throughout our lives to respond conformingly or "correctly" to wants and needs.
Is there any real reason for you to not be who you are? NO! There are no real reasons, just excuses and rationale based on fear, fear of the unknown you, fear of who you might become if you followed your heart and soul.
Tell me what scares you more: Agreeing to stride into the unknown and the possible, or looking back on a life of safety and never knowing what might have been?
Tell me how you want to live: with faith or fear? Faith will empower you to step into the unknown and progress, even when the weather gets cloudy, the road gets bumpy, and the shadows deepen. Faith will also allow opportunities, synchronicities, and miracles to avail themselves to you.
Fear will limit you. Fear in the mind will create the rationalization that it is better to not rock the boat, your's or anyone else's. Your life will remain safely moored, never to experience your sails filled with the winds of creation.
So, in this time of new year's resolutions, I ask each of us to decide if now is a good time or THE time, to take the opportunity to become all of who we really are. Anything less than all of who you really are is a waste of time and an injustice committed upon all those in your life now and in the future. You are HERE NOW for a purpose. We are here for each other for a purpose. Don't you feel that we should be getting on with our purpose and begin to fully breathe life?
Now, rewrite your answer to the question "Who do I long to be?" into a one or two paragraph biography from the perspective of you at the age of 90 years old. Remember, your bio is of WHO YOU ARE and what you have done and accomplished to express who you are. Then, starting today, reinvent yourself by reading your bio twice daily and being consistent as possible with your bio in what you do, say, think, and feel.
So, decide who YOU REALLY ARE and create a life of BEAUTY AND GREATNESS!
